Recently, NextGen Gallery stopped working on sites that also had Contact Form 7 installed due a recent update in Contact Form 7. These are two very popular free plugins that are used on many websites.
I recently came across this post that explains a simple way to fix this error and it worked on this site, as well as other people’s sites:

Basically, here is the step by step breakdown of how to fix this issue:
1. Log into WordPress as Admin and click on “Plugins – Editor” on the left menu.
2. Select NextGen Gallery in the pull down menu. Then click the “Select” button.
3. Scroll down until you see “ngg-config.php”. Click on the link to edit the file.
4. Change ‘wp-load.php’ to ‘wp-admin/admin.php’. Then Click “update file” button.
And there you have it! This is the simple fix for this problem that people have been using. Hopefully, either NextGen Gallery or Contact Form 7 will fix this issue in their next update.
